Permanent exhibition
How are the objects in the Museum's collections stored? What techniques are used to preserve them from the ravages of time?
The behind-the-scenes operations of the Québec Museum of Folk Culture are presented during a guided visit of the Robert-Lionel-Séguin open storage area.
Guides explain the different methods used to preserve, refurbish and store all kinds of objects according to state of condition and the materials they're made of. Visitors are given the opportunity to help wrap and store objects under the guides' supervision.
Named for the ethnologist Robert-Lionel Séguin, the open storage area is an innovation in Québec museology.
Small Buildings
Robert-Lionel Séguin was on the lookout for anything that might throw light on the characteristic features of our culture. As he was keen to safeguard our national heritage and to illustrate the techniques of traditional architecture, he acquired typical buildings and preserved them on his lands at Rigaud. These buildings form the Robert-Lionel-Séguin collection are grouped in the Museum’s backyard with the same view in mind, that of highlighting the knowledge and skills of our forbears.
